MEET OUR PASTOR

Fr. Peter Vu Lam
PASTOR
(858) 277-0404 (office)
(760) 514-6799 (text)
FrPeterSD@oneholyfamily.org

Father Vu Lam, pronounced “Peter,” was born in a family of seven boys and two girls, where he is next to the last of the Lams. All of his siblings except for one sister are now living in San Diego. His parents and one sister are still living in his homeland, Vietnam.
In 1988, at the age of 11, he joined his eldest brother and older sister in fleeing by boat from Vietnam, in pursuit of a better life from the confines of the communist government. As an 11-year-old refugee from Vietnam living in Pulau Bidong, Malaysia, he spent so much time at church that people started calling him “Father.” When they moved to a new camp in Bataan, Philippines, among a new group of Vietnamese refugees, he was given the same nickname. That was when he began to think he might one day become a priest.
That idea took shape when they came to the United States in 1990 as he started to learn more about priestly life.
In 1996, right after finishing (Serra) High School, he was accepted to Saint Francis Seminary here in San Diego. Following four years of studies at University of San Diego and four years at St. Patrick’s Theological Seminary, he was ordained a priest on May 28, 2004, for the Diocese of San Diego by Most Reverend Bishop Robert Brom.
Prior to coming to Holy Family, he had served his first assignment at Our Mother of Confidence in University City for two and a half years. From there he was assigned Associate Pastor at St. Francis of Assisi in Vista, and Chaplain for the Vietnamese Community and Tri-City Medical Center. Since July 1st 2014, he has been serving Holy Family parish community.
